Being diagnosed with a gluten-related illness is a bitch, but you can learn to live with it, keep yourself healthy and not be totally miserable.
When Amy Peveteaux learned she had celiac disease, she went to her local bookstore to read up on living gluten-free. She stood in the diet and health aisle flipping through gluten-free cookbooks and celebrity memoirs of living with the disease. Something in all of these titles was missing, though. She didn’t see anything that addressed the emotional aspects of her diagnosis, that acknowledged what a pain-in-ass it was, or that gave her hope for leaving with it.
Frustrated, she went home and started her blog, Gluten Is My Bitch. She used her platform to talk “big-time smack about gluten,” and her book of the same title shares more of the feelings and frustrations that come with living gluten-free, along with scores of recipes and helpful resources.
